Title: Diversified poultry production in India: An overview

 

 

Biography:

Ezhil valavan Subbiah is working as Associate Professor at Poultry Research Station, Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS), Chennai, India. Produced designer chicken egg and meat the first time in India by incorporating fish, linseed and rapeseed oils in poultry ration. He continuously worked for production of designer Japanese quail egg and meat. He produced low cholesterol eggs by feeding chitin and chitoson and dried feed microbial in layer feed.   His aim is to augment the production performance of chicken, turkey, guinea fowl, Japanese quail, native chicken namely Aseel, Kadaknath, Nicobari, etc by concerted scientific breeding technology. He has done detailed study on the production performance of Japanese quail by supplementing azolla, dried brewery waste, phytobiotics, etc. Remarkably at the same time he paid attention in improving the immune status of the chicken by supplementing ethno-veterinary mixtures and omega-3- enriched feed ingredients to control coccidiosis.  He has published more than 30 international / national articles in the area of poultry science. He has written books on Japanese quail production, turkey farming, desi chicken production and distance education books for TANUVAS. He was the recipient of “Tamil Peravai Award” of TANUVAS for the book entitled Desi-chicken rearing which was adjudged as the Best Book during 2012. He teaches to Under-graduate (B.Tech – Poultry Production Technology) and Post graduate students (M.V.Sc., and Ph.D.,) of TANUVAS. He has supervised / advised for three successful post-graduate researches in a range of areas in poultry science. He is instrumental in starting and conduct of 8 Post-graduate diploma courses, 18 skill development courses, 14 self-employment courses and 13 distance education courses of TANUVAS. He actively participated and presented papers in European Poultry Conference, Italy, World Poultry Congress at Australia and Brazil and World Waterfowl Conference at Vietnam.
