Title: Molecular basis of intramuscular fat deposition and its application in chicken breeding

Wen Jie, an animal scientist by training, received his BSc degree in Animal Husbandry (1985) from Hebei Agricultural University, Baoding, China; his MS degree in Animal Nutrition (1988) from Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Beijing, china; his PhD in Animal Nutrition (1991) from Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Beijing, China, and his postdoc in Animal Nutrition (1996) from University College Cork, Cork, Ireland.

Prof. Wen is deputy director general of Institute of Animal Sciences, the chief scientist of the China Agricultural research System (Broiler, start in 2008), enjoying the special government allowance from the State Council. He is the chief scientist of the poultry breeding group under the Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Program. He is the editor in chief of Acta Veterinaria et Zootechnica Sinica, vice president of Poultry Science Association of Chinese Association of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine.

His research area is molecular genetics and breeding of meat-type chicken. He focuses on genes, molecular markers and regulation mechanisms for meat quality trait in recent years. He has taken charge of 40 research projects such as State Science and Technology Support Program, Natural Science Foundation of China et al.

Prof.Wen won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, the third prize of Beijing Science and Technology Progress Award, and the first prize of national agricultural harvest award. He had obtained 3 patents in breeding technology and set significant national or industry standards such as feeding standard of chicken, quality classification of chicken, et al.
