Dr.Aly Fadly

Title: Diagnosis and Control of Avian Tumor Viruses in poultry: A Review

 

 

Biography:

Before his recent retirement in 2015, Dr. Fadly’ s research program during the last 39 years at the USDA-ARS Avian Disease and Oncology Laboratory in East Lansing, Michigan was focused on diagnosis, immunopathogenesis, epidemiology and control of two groups of avian retroviruses, avian leukosis and reticuloendotheliosis viruses. During his career, Dr. Fadly authored or co-authored 221 publications including 140 peer -reviewed journals articles; 2 patents, 22 book chapters and 57 conference proceedings. Dr. Fadly is considered a national and international expert in the area of retrovirus-induced diseases of poultry. He has given numerous national and international invited talks including Keynote talks in 18 different countries addressing regional, national and international professional associations, industry, commodity groups, and academia. He also received a number of awards for his contributions to the understanding of avian retrovirus induced diseases including two best paper awards in the international journal, Avian Diseases, the Upjohn Achievement Award given by the American Association of Avian Pathologists for distinguish contributions to Avian Medicine; and the Excellence in Poultry Research Award given by the American Veterinary Medical Foundation and sponsored by Pfizer Animal Health. Most recently, Dr. Fadly was elected to the 2015 World Veterinary Poultry Association’s Hall of Honor. Dr. Fadly is a Diplomate of the American College of Poultry Veterinarians, an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Pathobiology and Diagnostic Investigation at Michigan State University and served as an Associate Editor of the 11th (2003) and 12th (2008) editions of the textbook, Diseases of Poultry. He serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal, Avian Diseases and Tumor Virus Committees of the American Association of Avian Pathologists. He served as the Major Research Advisor/mentor for 3 M.S. and 5 Ph.D. students, and two postdoctoral research associates; he also served as an Expert Consultant for the United Nations’ International Atomic Energy Agency and FAO; United States Agency for International Development and World Organization for Animal Health (OIE).
