Title: Unravelling the related genes underlying Morphological traits in chickens

Biography

Dr. Xiaoxiang Hu is a professor in the State Key Laboratory for Agro-Biotechnology at China Agricultural University (SKLAB-CAU). Dr. Hu got his BS, MS and PhD. in Animal Breeding and Genetics in the college of Animal Science from China Agricultural University. She had ever worked as a post-doctoral fellow at INRA Jouy-en-Josas in 2003 in France. In the year of 2013 she worked as a visiting Professor in Cornell University.  Dr. Hu’s main research interesting was focused on the molecular and cellular mechanisms of economic important genes. She utilizing derived variations especially in Chinese Indigenous Chicken to dissect the genetic basis and molecular mechanism of economic traits. In recent years Dr. Hu’s research projects include whole genome sequencing and re-sequencing of chicken genome, positive selection and domestication study of chicken genome, gene insertion and target study based on Lentivirus, CRISP-Cas9 and PGC platform in Chickens. Until now, she and colleagues have discovered many genes and variants that contributing to morphological, body weight, growth and disease resistance traits in Chicken. Her main accomplishments are the mapping of genes that control Silky feather, Muffs and beard (Mb), Rose comb and Crest trait in Chicken, which demonstrated that both complex genomic structural variations and single nucleotide variants have prominent phenotypic effects. In recent two years Dr. Hu also studied on Genotyping-By-Sequencing technology to make use the Next Generation sequencing for Whole Genome Selection in Chickens.
